Aegis Pit and Fissure SealantSmart Material in a Light Cured Sealant Bosworth Introduces Aegis Pit and Fissure Sealant with ACP |
|
The Bosworth Company offers Aegis pit and fissure sealant with ACP (amorphous calcium phosphate). It is resilient and flexible, creating a strong, long-lasting sealant. This light-cured product has a controlled flowability that keeps the sealant on the tooth structure while completely filling occlusal surfaces. Aegis forms a chemical and thermal barrier that protects the tooth enamel on the occlusal surface from caries. Aegis Pit and Fissure Sealant is a light-cured sealant that contains the “smart material” amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) that slowly releases calcium and phosphate ions, the basic building blocks of teeth. ACP is referred to as a “smart material” because it only releases calcium and phosphate ions when the surrounding pH drops to a level where it could start to dissolve the tooth. Once the calcium phosphate is released, it acts to neutralize the acid and buffer the pH. The ACP filler is resilient and flexible, creating a stronger and longer lasting sealant. Aegis Pit and Fissure Sealant can be used with any light-curing device and offers the added convenience of dispensing through syringe tips. Aegis’ controlled flowability keeps the sealant on the tooth while completely filling the pits and fissures. When properly maintained and placed, Aegis forms a chemical and thermal barrier that can help keep patients free from carious lesions on the occlusal surfaces. The new resin formula allows for better flow and handling, and the sealant cures to an opaque film on enamel. A standard kit contains material for approximately 30 patients. —Julie Cullen |
