I recall the dental school days of learning how to place retraction cord in the mouth. It was a gruesome ordeal, made even more laborious with the 2-cord technique, as if one cord to pack was not punishment enough. Training my staff to pack cord correctly was even more dejecting. Of course, when periodontal disease was present, it was almost a piece of cake; almost, only because the bleeding almost never stopped. Nevertheless, I prevailed, determined to obtain the perfect impression every time.
